Undergraduate Teaching Assistant and course-development contributor for an unreleased HKUST computing course focused broadly on AI-assisted software engineering.
Context
I serve as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant and course-development contributor for an unreleased computing course at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, broadly concerned with AI-assisted software development—working with coding agents, analysing existing codebases, and reasoning about trade-offs when not every requirement can be satisfied.
The course has not yet launched, so its syllabus, assessments and internal teaching materials remain confidential. What follows describes the nature of the contribution, not the course's specific content.
An unusual position
I took on this role as a freshman, contributing to the development of an advanced course while still early in my own undergraduate studies—working under the direction of Prof. Kenneth Leung's teaching team.
Responsibilities
- Teaching-material preparation—drafting and refining lecture-support materials, and developing examples of AI-assisted software-engineering workflows.
- Laboratory and practical-activity design—hands-on exercises involving code generation, repository analysis, debugging and refactoring.
- Assessment development—drafting assessment-style questions with plausible distractors that test reasoning rather than terminology recall.
- Case-study development—scenarios requiring students to weigh competing requirements and justify a technical decision.
- Code and repository examples—small samples and example codebases used to illustrate refactoring and review.
- Prompt and agent-task design—instructions for coding agents.
- Review and collaboration—presenting draft materials to the professor and teaching team, and revising based on their feedback.
Skills demonstrated
Technical writing, software-engineering reasoning, educational design, assessment construction, prompt design, and academic collaboration—informed by my prior experience in HKDSE ICT education and assessment design, applied here at a university level under academic supervision.
