Good teaching is never a solo effort.
I'm Anson, a graduate of Ying Wa College and a current student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. I achieved 5** in HKDSE ICT and 5* in English in 2024, and I offer one-to-one tutoring in senior-secondary ICT and secondary-school English.
As a co-founder of TechGrade.ICT, I brought together multiple ICT 5** graduates to develop learning resources and organise a large free ICT mock examination.
High scores show that I understand the subject. Good teaching requires more: recognising where a student is struggling, bringing together the right resources, and explaining difficult ideas until they genuinely make sense.

Senior-secondary ICT
ICT is my most established teaching area. Lessons cover more than revision: students learn how HKDSE questions are constructed, how marks are awarded, where distractors and common traps appear, and how to apply their knowledge in structured questions and programming tasks.
- Coverage of the compulsory curriculum and different elective combinations, including core knowledge, multiple-choice technique, structured questions and programming.
- Close attention to common HKEAA question patterns, keywords, distractors and causes of lost marks.
- Comprehensive notes, original questions, past-paper patterns and targeted practice to help students become comfortable with public-examination expectations.
- Cross-elective experience allows lessons to follow the student's school curriculum, elective combination and individual areas for improvement.
- Students may seek support with foundations, examination technique, elective topics or higher-grade goals. We begin by understanding what the student currently needs and plan from there.
Cross-elective ICT background
- Studied the former Elective B, Data Communications and Networking, building a strong foundation in networking.
- Independently studied and sat Elective D, Software Development, achieving 5** in the 2024 HKDSE.
- Independently covered other elective areas, supporting students across different elective combinations under the revised curriculum.
Secondary-school English
Alongside specialist ICT tutoring, I offer one-to-one English lessons tailored to the student's current ability, school progress and learning goals.
- Lessons can cover grammar, sentence structure, reading comprehension, writing and school-examination preparation.
- English concepts can be explained in Chinese when helpful, so that students understand why an answer is wrong instead of relying only on memorised responses.
- Writing practice receives specific feedback and practical next steps, helping students develop more accurate and natural expression.
- The student's own homework, tests and examination papers can be used to identify recurring problems and focus on the areas that affect performance most.
- The service is especially suitable for students who want to rebuild foundations, improve school results or develop more dependable English skills. Enquiries from students with other levels and goals are also welcome.
- IELTS Overall Band 8.0, with 8.5 in Listening, Speaking and Reading.
- 5* in HKDSE English and a full score of 24/24 in the English SBA.
- Consistent A grades in senior-secondary English and a top-ten position in the cohort.
How I teach
- I first understand the student's current situation, school progress and goals before planning suitable lesson content.
- Everyday analogies and concrete examples turn abstract ideas into manageable steps.
- Students are not simply given the answer. We examine how the question creates a trap, where the incorrect reasoning began, and how to make the decision independently next time.
- The pace is adjusted according to the student's response. I have experience teaching students with weaker foundations and students with special educational needs.
- Practice and homework follow realistic school or public-examination formats where appropriate, helping students turn understanding into usable answering skills.
- Students are encouraged to raise uncertainties openly and gradually build independent thinking and confidence.
Teaching, learning-resource and assessment-design experience

- Currently an undergraduate teaching assistant at HKUST, contributing to materials and assessment-item design for an undergraduate computing course.
- Helped a student with special educational needs improve an ICT multiple-choice score from the teens to 28/40.
- Served as a senior-secondary ICT programming mentor from Form 5 onwards, with direct experience teaching senior-secondary students.
- As vice-chairperson of the school Computer Society, helped organise an introductory Python course for fellow students.
- Continues to share free practice and public-examination analysis through the Instagram account @ansonwph_ict.
